We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Stan Levenson on August 27.

“He was a longtime Sammons Jazz member and was one of the founders of the D’JAM project. He continued to be involved in D’JAM to the end.” — Joanna St. Angelo, Executive Director

A widely recognized public relations professional, Stan dedicated decades to community service and championed the arts across Dallas and beyond. He chaired the Greater Dallas Chamber’s marketing committee, directed civic initiatives including the grand opening of the African-American Museum at Fair Park, and served on boards such as the Dallas Arboretum, North Texas Commission, and the Sammons Center Legacy Council, as well as advisory boards at UNT, UTD, and SMU.

Stan has been a dedicated member of the Sammons Center for more than twenty years and was honored as Sammons Jazz Benefactor of the Year (2013) and D’JAM Benefactor of the Year (2014) and generously donated a collection of framed jazz posters that continues to brighten our building.

Levenson is survived by his wife Barbara Levenson; daughters Laura Levenson Gottesman (Morris) of Austin and Amy Levenson Krumholz of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law Alan and Renay Levenson of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law Carol Salmon and Norman Broad of Miami; as well as six grandsons, four great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be held tomorrow, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El.

In his memory, we will dedicate our upcoming Sammons Jazz concert on September 3 to Stan.
