SUMMARY:Tres Artes - The Painter & the Poet
DESCRIPTION:Flamenco Fever’s insightful Fusion Series will present Tres Artes:  The Painter and the Poet\, a story of Forbidden Love. \nAs part of the 2024 season of Elevator Project at the AT&T Performing Arts Center\, local students\, international musicians and dancers took the stage at Strauss Square to tell the tragic love story of painter Salvador Dalí and martyred Spanish poet\, playwright and flamenco aficionado\, Federico Garcia Lorca. \nJoin us for an evening of conceptual choreography\, elegant costuming and incredible music as we delve deeply into the provocative history of Spain and the rise of Surrealism\, the LGBTQ community and the Fascist Franconian Regime in the early 20th century.  War scene pyrotechnics provided by Fempyre. \nPintura\, Poesia y Pasion combines four dynamic art forms – live music\, dance and the recitation of Garcia Lorca’s poetry – into an unforgettable performance. In this sophisticated evening. The Cast includes Julia Alcantara – Local Director/Producer as “La Argentinita”\, Jorge Robledo (Argentina) as “Lorca” and Joseph Gonzales (Albuquerque) as “Salvador Dali”. \nFlamenco Fever produces nearly 70 performances annually\, each accompanied by requisite live music. They landed Dallas on the world map last summer when they were  the first American company in Spanish history to be invited to perform. Hundreds of flamenco aficionados\, and Spain’s top artists\, enthusiastically received the show.

SUMMARY:CONVERGENCE: In C
DESCRIPTION:Experience CONVERGENCE\, the electrifying opening of Verdigris Ensemble’s season\, featuring the world premiere of Yaz Lancaster’s SYNASTRY and Terry Riley’s iconic In C. \nComposed of 53 short interchangeable musical phrases\, each performance of In C is a living\, breathing creation that reflects the unique interaction of the musicians on stage and the audience in the room. The result is a mesmerizing soundscape that is never the same twice\, offering audiences a one-of-a-kind experience every time they hear it. \nComplementing In C is the world premiere of Yaz Lancaster’s SYNASTRY\, a choral work that delves into the astrological concept of synastry—the study of how celestial bodies interact in two individuals’ birth charts to illuminate the dynamics of their relationship. SYNASTRY features layered vocal lines that begin in unison before dissolving into more complex\, independent movements\, symbolizing the convergence of distinct personalities and energies in human relationships. The text\, co-written by Lancaster and Victoria Mbabazi\, captures the tension and harmony inherent in these interactions\, exploring themes of desire\, connection\, and emotional depth.

SUMMARY:Paella y Pasion
DESCRIPTION:Paella y Pasion has become a popular part of the organization’s culturally rich Festival. That is one reason Flamenco Fever now plans to move this crowd-pleasing\, family-friendly event to spring\, presenting it as a stand-alone event to expand the organization’s public visibility\, provide additional flamenco-focused performance opportunities\, and build its audience and base of financial support. \nPaella y Pasion is already a proven way to bridge the divide between traditional flamenco performances in formal venues and economically diverse local audiences who customarily have limited or no access to such venues. Producing Paella y Passion each spring will provide another public event for local individuals and groups to perform for their families\, friends\, community members and existing flamenco aficionados as well as raise general public awareness about the art of flamenco and the role of Flamenco Fever in the Metroplex’s cultural landscape. \nAs Paella y Pasion has as part of the fall festival\, a spring event will provide beginning flamenco dancers\, singers and guitarists the relaxed atmosphere and supportive public outdoor environment they require to let their talents shine\, and more experienced students will get to meet and mentor newcomers to the flamenco arts. \nFor $20 per person\, audience members may also purchase a bowl of paella\, which comes with a flower\, a Spanish-themed polka-dot scarf or a fan – which further immerse them in the flamenco experience. Audience members are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket for comfort and to support the participation of families that span multiple generations.

III:41 – “Russian”  \nBenjamin Britten: String Quartet No. 2 in C Major\, Op. 36 \nFelix Mendelssohn: String Quartet No. 3 in D Major\, Op. 44 No. 1 \n—————————————————– \nSince its inception in 1992\, the Brentano String Quartet has appeared throughout the world to popular and critical acclaim.  “Passionate\, uninhibited and spellbinding\,” raves the London Independent; the New York Times extols its “luxuriously warm sound [and] yearning lyricism.” \nWithin a few years of its formation\, the Quartet garnered the first Cleveland Quartet Award and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and was also honored in the U.K. with the Royal Philharmonic Award for Most Outstanding Debut. Since then\, the Quartet has concertized widely\, performing in the world’s most prestigious venues\, including Carnegie Hall in New York; the Library of Congress in Washington; the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; the Konzerthaus in Vienna; Suntory Hall in Tokyo; and the Sydney Opera House. \nIn addition to performing the entire two-century range of the standard quartet repertoire\, the Brentano Quartet maintains a strong interest in contemporary music\, and has commissioned many new works. Their latest project\, a monodrama for quartet and voice called Dido Reimagined\, was composed by Pulitzer-winning composer Melinda Wagner and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann\, and had its premiere in spring 2022 with soprano Dawn Upshaw.  Other recent commissions include the composers Matthew Aucoin\,  Lei Liang\, Vijay Iyer\, James Macmillan\, and a cello quintet by Steven Mackey (performed with Wilhelmina Smith\, cello.) \nThe Brentano Quartet has worked closely with other important composers of our time\, among them Elliot Carter\, Charles Wuorinen\, Chou Wen-chung\, Bruce Adolphe\, and György Kurtág.  They have also been privileged to collaborate with such artists as soprano Jessye Norman\, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato\, and pianists Richard Goode\, Jonathan Biss\, and Mitsuko Uchida. The Quartet has recorded works by Mozart and Schubert for Azica Records\, and all of Beethoven’s late Quartets for the Aeon label. In 2012\, they provided the central music (Beethoven Opus 131) for the critically-acclaimed independent film A Late Quartet. \nSince 2014\, the Brentano Quartet has served as Artists-in-Residence at the Yale School of Music. They were formerly the Ensemble-in-Residence at Princeton University\, and were twice invited to be the collaborative ensemble for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition \n24/25 Season Subscriptions are now available for purchase!
