DESCRIPTION:Former artistic director\, multi-instrumentalist and composer Roger Boykin is back with an exciting show. Roger Boykin Presents The Heritage String Quartette features Roger’s arrangements of Duke Ellington music\, the American Songbook\, as well as Roger’s original compositions. Roger spent time during the pandemic composing string arrangements and says the number kept growing and growing into a complete catalogue of music. The group includes Roger Boykin on flute and conducting\, Maria Demus & JeRae Dublin on violin\, Steven Juarez on viola and Jordan Jones on cello. \nWe continue with the adept pianist Bill Lohr. Bill has traveled the world playing piano for Carmen McRae\, Lou Rawls\, the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and others. Bill Lohr and Friends features Bill Lohr on piano\, Lyles West on bass\, Steve Barnes on drums and Rodney Booth on trumpet.

DESCRIPTION:Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at The Wine Therapist in Lakewood. \nClassical Open Mic is a free and open weekly event\, where professional and amateur classical musicians can play anything they desire related to classical music. From violin solos to opera arias to string quartets and horn concertos\, musicians of all levels are welcomed to share their talents with the friendly and appreciative cafe audience. \nA professional pianist is available to accompany you on opera arias\, flute sonatas\, cello concertos\, you name it! They will sightread your piece\, which means there are likely to be some mistakes\, but it’s part of the fun of making music on the spot. \nThe Wine Therapist has wonderful high quality wine and beer selections. While they don’t serve food\, you can order food to be delivered from any of the nearby restaurants or carry in. \nHow can I play? \nEverybody who plays classical music is welcome to join. Sign up on our website to grab your slot. \nAll skill levels are welcomed and encouraged. There are always professional musicians who perform\, as well as amateurs and students. Musicians of all levels enjoy this unique opportunity to have fun making music in front of a welcoming\, receptive audience. Our goal is to provide a fun atmosphere where all can share their talents and not be afraid to be harshly judged. Mistakes are pretty common and part of the open mic experience.

SUMMARY:Verdigris Ensemble Presents: Dust Bowl
DESCRIPTION:Anthony J. Maglione’s acclaimed music triumphantly returns to Dallas\, played to sold-out audiences during its world premiere in 2020. The commissioned work\, which Dallas critics hailed as “breathtaking” and “unlike anything else in our city\,” features first-hand accounts of survivors of the Dust Bowl with additional newspaper articles and diary entries. In collaboration with a bluegrass band\, video projection\, and choreographed movement\, Verdigris Ensemble brings Dust Bowl back to Dallas and asks how this happened and whether we have learned from our mistakes. \nSung in: English \nSubtitles in: English \nRuntime: 55 minutes \nNo Intermission \nA reception immediately follows concerts. \nA portion of every ticket will be donated to the Texas Trees Foundation
