SUMMARY:Yo No Estoy Loca ~ 5th Annual Latinidades Theatre Festival
DESCRIPTION:Cara Mía Theatre presents\nTeatro Petra’s Comedy Production from Bogotá\, Colombia\n\nIn this uproarious comedy\, witness the collision between tradition and rebellion as a “traditional Latina woman” navigates a society that labels her “crazy” for demanding her rights. Inspired by real events and with a Latinx cultural focus\, the play explores the absurdity of societal norms and the power of individual defiance. With comedic twists\, audiences will roar with laughter while contemplating the deeper implications of cultural expectations. Get ready for an unforgettable journey into the comically chaotic world of upending tradition!\n\nUna mujer entra a su casa y encuentra a su esposo acostado con otra mujer. Todo lo que aquí van a ver\, pasó.\n\nPerformed in Spanish with English Subtitles.\n\nContent Warning\nRecommended for ages 17 and up due to sexual language.

SUMMARY:Much Ado About Nothing
DESCRIPTION:In Shakespeare’s play\, Much Ado About Nothing\, power defies legacy. Throughout the show\, we see greed\, jealousy\, and deception make a valiant effort to foil the love of young courtship. This comedic play unfolds as Leonato\, leader of Spain\, awaits the arrival of Don Pedro of Aragon and his victorious army of Portuguese soldados (soldiers). \nIn collaboration with Shakespeare Dallas\, Much Ado About Nothing runs July 30 – August 4\, 2024 at 8 pm each night at Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre. \nIn an effort to make access to the arts more equitable for the members of our DFW community and beyond\, we have removed our ticket prices and have instead shifted to a donation or ‘pay-what-you-can’ model for all 6 performances of Much Ado About Nothing \nMake your donation for this comedic tale of love\, power\, and adventure today!

SUMMARY:La Maupin: The French Abomination
DESCRIPTION:La Maupin is a tale of love and tragedy set in 18th century France all wrapped up in a high octane Punk Rock Vanity Fair package. Based on the true story of Julie D’Aubigny\, bisexual duelist and opera singer who was famous for dueling men and wooing their women. Through a beautiful mix of sword fighting and dance\, the show details her almost too incredible to believe exploits (like the time she burned down a nunnery to escape with her lover\, or the time she fought 3 men at once- and won!) While exploring the Julie’s journey to find happiness and acceptance as a queer woman way ahead of her time.
