SUMMARY:Radiance
DESCRIPTION:Experience the grand finale of Bruce Wood’s 14th season with Radiance\, an unforgettable showcase featuring three captivating and emotionally powerful dance performances. \nImmerse yourself in the fiery passion of Boléro by Founder Bruce Wood\, the exhilaration of the world premiere\, Smile\, by Artistic Director/Resident Choreographer Joy Bollinger\, and the world–renowned Nine Sinatra Songs by legendary Choreographer Twyla Tharp. \nSet to Ravel’s passionate score\, Boléro ignites the stage with its smoldering and sophisticated allure. Praised as “outrageously haughty and downright sexy” by Victoria Looseleaf of the Los Angeles Times\, this iconic dance has become a timeless classic. \nAmplifying the excitement is Bollinger’s playful and sultry world premiere\, Smile\, set to the soulful tunes of Jon Batiste’s acclaimed album\, Hollywood Africans. Bollinger weaves a radiant tribute to the vitality of life\, drawing inspiration from ragtime\, boogie–woogie\, and classical music. \nTwyla Tharp’s romantic\, tender\, playful\, and exuberant Nine Sinatra Songs brings the season to a spectacular close. Decked out in costumes by Oscar de la Renta\, dancers swing\, swirl\, tango\, and cha–cha through a glittering ballroom while tracing an arc of romantic relationships. Elizabeth Kendall of The New York Times said\, “Nine Sinatra Songs struck me as something rare: An American masterpiece.” \nRadiance guarantees an electrifying performance that will captivate and uplift your spirits. \nJoin us for the post–performance Curtain Chat\, where you can engage with the artists and share your insights on this spellbinding experience.

Contact producer :: sarah@dallasmovementcollective.com \nABOUT LORCA SIMONS | Lorca is a certified 5Rhythms facilitator dedicated to the creation of physical theatre that is both interactive and transformative. \nShe was born and raised in Texas where she grew up in her father’s experimental theatre company Hip Pocket Theatre. As Producing Artistic Director she has been involved in the creation of original works for 47 years. A graduate of The University of North Carolina School of the Arts theatre conservatory. Educated in both experimental and traditional theatre. She has blazed through productions in New York City from Off Broadway to fringe\, as well as television and film. \nLorca followed her instincts to the unique directing vibration known as Gabrielle Roth and a 19 year creative collaboration bloomed. She studied and trained with Gabrielle from the mid-90’s and was a co-founder and a co-director of 5RT\, the experimental theatre wing of the 5Rhythms world\, a place she stepped into with her expansive Texan feet\, collaborating on numerous original productions and international workshops. In response to Gabrielle Roth’s investigation into what it means to be an authentic human being Lorca created Live Wire 5Rhythms Theatre which is dedicated to the creation of physical theater that is both interactive and transformative. Live Wire labs: Breath in Motion\, Roots\, Electric Landscapes\, Silhouette\, Wing Span\, Soul Threading\, On The Verge and Soul Revival are rooted in a visionary and rigorous technique for people to become true “athletes of the heart” exploring and investigating the depths of the human spirit. \nShe is committed to scattering the seeds of this transformative process. \nLearn more about Lorca: https://www.lorcasimons.com/ \nCONTACT |\nSarah Sampson\, Producer\nEmail >>> sarah@dallasmovementcollective.com \nABOUT HIP POCKET THEATRE |\nMagical. Raw. Beautiful Texas Grit.\nHip Pocket Theatre opens its historic gates to host + hold this deeply rooted exploration of embodied poetry + creative investigation under a vast open sky. \nHip Pocket Theatre\, as both experimental playhouse and environmental visual installation\, has a long-standing outreach program comprising community based events and enriching healing arts programming. It is dedicated now\, as always\, to bringing guest artists from around the globe and throughout Fort Worth to collaborate on projects each season. \nHip Pocket Theatre has been a vital part of the performing arts in Texas since 1976\, when founders Johnny Simons\, Diane Simons\, and Douglas Balentine first staged their interdisciplinary plays under the stars in Fort Worth. Since its founding\, the theater has grown its global reach and capacity for genre-defying programming\, while staying true to the bold\, playful\, and magical. \nHip Pocket incorporates dance\, mime\, music\, masks\, and puppetry to create a universal language that can tell stories at once childlike and urgent. The scripts\, the stage\, and the performers at Hip Pocket build on a lexicon unique to its pioneering roots\, and each performance is an homage to what it means to create a space for theater. \nHip Pocket honors the new vision of each artistic generation as an unfolding of time. Johnny and Diane’s daughters\, Lorca and Lake\, now carry the theater’s vision forward with their new directorship. They embody Hip Pocket’s evolving vocabulary of storytelling and movement\, and as veteran creators for its stage\, look to expand its legacy of original\, boundary-bending works. As Lorca and Lake bring with them lifelong careers and experience in the arts\, they conscientiously seek to prioritize the theater’s accessibility\, inclusivity\, and international reach. \nLearn more about HPT: www.hippocket.org

SUMMARY:The Impressionist Revolution from Monet to Matisse
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the Impressionist Revolution with Bombshell Dance Project on a movement tour of From Munch to Kirchner: The Heins Collection of Modern and Expressionist Art inspired by the exhibition. \nFree Admission \nMeet on Level 2 outside Blue elevators \nThe Impressionist Revolution from Monet to Matisse explores the fascinating story of Impressionism from its birth in 1874 to its legacy in the early 20th century. Told almost entirely through the DMA’s exceptional holdings\, this exhibition reveals the rebellious origins of the independent artist collective known as the Impressionists and the revolutionary course they charted for modern art. \nBreaking with tradition in both how and what they painted\, as well as how they showed their work\, the Impressionists redefined what constituted cutting-edge contemporary art. The unique innovations of its core members\, such as Claude Monet\, Edgar Degas\, and Berthe Morisot\, set the foundation against which following generations of avant-garde artists reacted\, from Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh to Piet Mondrian and Henri Matisse. \nCelebrating the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition\, The Impressionist Revolution invites you to reconsider these now beloved artists as the scandalous renegades they were\, as well as the considerable impact they had on 20th-century art.
