SUMMARY:Into the Gamba-Verse
DESCRIPTION:Lumedia Musicworks Presents “Into the Gamba-Verse” — A Fusion of Baroque Music and Modern Dance at Gracepoint Media Studios\, Dallas \nLumedia Musicworks announces the release of its newest short film\, Into the Gamba-Verse\, a mesmerizing blend of baroque music and contemporary dance\, premiering at Gracepoint Media Studios in Dallas on December 2 at 7:30 p.m. This exclusive red carpet event redefines traditional classical music performances\, setting early music against the backdrop of modern dance choreographed by Bruce Wood Dance Dallas’s Artistic Director\, Joy Bollinger. \nInspired by Marin Marais’ dance-driven Chaconne en Rondeau\, an 18th-century composition for bass viola da gamba and continuo\, the film merges modern dance with the timeless resonance of early music. Bruce Wood Dance Dallas joins Lumedia Musicworks in this collaboration at Dallas’s first RX video wall studio\, where the project was filmed in early 2024. \nAlongside the premiere screening of Into the Gamba-Verse\, Lumedia’s early music band will perform a live concert featuring selections by Marais\, Forqueray\, and d’Hervelois. Known for their “innovative approach” to classical music (Friends of WRR Classical Radio)\, Lumedia Musicworks continues to push the boundaries of the genre\, presenting historical works with a contemporary twist. \nThis unique red carpet event invites patrons to dress in attire with “bling\, sparkle\, and stardust” to celebrate the film’s cosmic experiment. Tickets are $50 and include complimentary libations\, bites\, and an engaging Q&A session with the artists following the screening. \nTickets are available for purchase online and at the door. \nEvent Details \nWhat: Premiere of Into the Gamba-Verse and live concert \nWhen: December 2\, 2024\, 7:30 p.m. \nWhere: Gracepoint Media Studios\, Dallas\, TX \nTickets: $50\, includes entry\, refreshments\, and artist Q&A \nDress Code: Bling\, sparkle\, and cosmic stardust \nFor media inquiries\, contact: info@lumediamusicworks.com

SUMMARY:Hallam Concert - November
DESCRIPTION:Basically Beethoven favorites MAKE Trio with guest Stas Chernyshev. \nAbout Basically Beethoven Hallam Concerts  \nThe Basically Beethoven Hallam Concerts are a series of free chamber music concerts on Saturday afternoons at 3\, at Central Commons\, monthly from October—May (excluding December). Each concert features local professional performers who play in a wide range of ensembles. \nThis concert series began in 1984 as Bancroft Family Concerts through a partnership with the Dallas Museum of Art. The free admission and daytime time slot of the concerts were expressly chosen to support Basically Beethoven’s commitment to provide professional chamber music to those who would not traditionally be able to attend—particularly older adults and families with children. For nearly four decades\, the concerts have consistently attracted full-capacity audiences. Musicians frequently include members of  the Dallas and Fort Worth symphonies\, the Dallas Opera orchestra\, other professional ensembles\, and faculty members from local universities such as Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas. \nThey are completely free of charge and open to all ages.

SUMMARY:Night of Decayed Musicians
DESCRIPTION:Lumedia Musicworks presents its latest concert titled Night of Decayed Musicians in Dallas at The Sammons Center for the Arts on October 4. \nKnown for their “innovative approach” to classical music (Friends of WRR Classical Radio)\, the concert celebrates an early Halloween\, complete with costumed musicians\, special audio and visual effects – a hallmark of Lumedia’s style – and a few surprises. The concert delves into the musical underworld with Vivaldi’s iconic “La Notte” concerto\, performed by Estonian-born recorder player Monika Ruusmaa. The mythical Medusa makes an appearance in Purcell’s famous “Music for a While”\, and a set titled “from the Tomb of the Unknown Composer” features works by Francesco Durante and Cai d’Hervelois. \n“The baroque period is filled with direct references to the dead and things that go bump in the night\,” explains Music Director Molly Hammond. “There is an abundance of fright-inducing content to choose from\, which we then highlight with precise positioning and some ‘edgy’ interpretation.” \nThe performance takes place in Meadows Hall at The Sammons Center for the Arts in Dallas on October 4 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $55 and include complimentary valet parking\, Perilous Pinot Noir (wine)\, Rats Ass Ale (beer)\, Effervescent Eel’s Eye Punch harvested during the last eclipse and blended with freshly killed lemon\, sugar plasma\, moldy grape skins\, and municipal tap water; and post-performance bites with the artists. Consider yourself warned. \nAudiences have proclaimed Lumedia to be ‘wacky and wonderful!’ Attend all Lumedia’s concerts with a season subscription\, available for purchase through October 4.

SUMMARY:Brentano String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:“[A] remarkable capacity for magical ensemble playing…” – The Washington Post \nOur 24/25 season opens with the beloved Brentano String Quartet \n—————————————————– \nBRENTANO STRING QUARTET  \nMark Steinberg\, violin \nSerena Canin\, violin \nMisha Amory\, viola \nNina Lee\, cello \n—————————————————– \nPROGRAM \nFranz Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in G Major\, Op. 33 No. 5\, Hob. III:41 – “Russian”  \nBenjamin Britten: String Quartet No. 2 in C Major\, Op. 36 \nFelix Mendelssohn: String Quartet No. 3 in D Major\, Op. 44 No. 1 \n—————————————————– \nSince its inception in 1992\, the Brentano String Quartet has appeared throughout the world to popular and critical acclaim.  “Passionate\, uninhibited and spellbinding\,” raves the London Independent; the New York Times extols its “luxuriously warm sound [and] yearning lyricism.” \nWithin a few years of its formation\, the Quartet garnered the first Cleveland Quartet Award and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and was also honored in the U.K. with the Royal Philharmonic Award for Most Outstanding Debut. Since then\, the Quartet has concertized widely\, performing in the world’s most prestigious venues\, including Carnegie Hall in New York; the Library of Congress in Washington; the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; the Konzerthaus in Vienna; Suntory Hall in Tokyo; and the Sydney Opera House. \nIn addition to performing the entire two-century range of the standard quartet repertoire\, the Brentano Quartet maintains a strong interest in contemporary music\, and has commissioned many new works. Their latest project\, a monodrama for quartet and voice called Dido Reimagined\, was composed by Pulitzer-winning composer Melinda Wagner and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann\, and had its premiere in spring 2022 with soprano Dawn Upshaw.  Other recent commissions include the composers Matthew Aucoin\,  Lei Liang\, Vijay Iyer\, James Macmillan\, and a cello quintet by Steven Mackey (performed with Wilhelmina Smith\, cello.) \nThe Brentano Quartet has worked closely with other important composers of our time\, among them Elliot Carter\, Charles Wuorinen\, Chou Wen-chung\, Bruce Adolphe\, and György Kurtág.  They have also been privileged to collaborate with such artists as soprano Jessye Norman\, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato\, and pianists Richard Goode\, Jonathan Biss\, and Mitsuko Uchida. The Quartet has recorded works by Mozart and Schubert for Azica Records\, and all of Beethoven’s late Quartets for the Aeon label. In 2012\, they provided the central music (Beethoven Opus 131) for the critically-acclaimed independent film A Late Quartet. \nSince 2014\, the Brentano Quartet has served as Artists-in-Residence at the Yale School of Music. They were formerly the Ensemble-in-Residence at Princeton University\, and were twice invited to be the collaborative ensemble for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition \n24/25 Season Subscriptions are now available for purchase!

SUMMARY:CONVERGENCE: In C
DESCRIPTION:Experience CONVERGENCE\, the electrifying opening of Verdigris Ensemble’s season\, featuring the world premiere of Yaz Lancaster’s SYNASTRY and Terry Riley’s iconic In C. \nComposed of 53 short interchangeable musical phrases\, each performance of In C is a living\, breathing creation that reflects the unique interaction of the musicians on stage and the audience in the room. The result is a mesmerizing soundscape that is never the same twice\, offering audiences a one-of-a-kind experience every time they hear it. \nComplementing In C is the world premiere of Yaz Lancaster’s SYNASTRY\, a choral work that delves into the astrological concept of synastry—the study of how celestial bodies interact in two individuals’ birth charts to illuminate the dynamics of their relationship. SYNASTRY features layered vocal lines that begin in unison before dissolving into more complex\, independent movements\, symbolizing the convergence of distinct personalities and energies in human relationships. The text\, co-written by Lancaster and Victoria Mbabazi\, captures the tension and harmony inherent in these interactions\, exploring themes of desire\, connection\, and emotional depth.

SUMMARY:Basically Beethoven Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:Basically\, the best show in town …\n\n\nFree\, family-friendly concerts on Sundays in July at 2:30 pm \nThe Basically Beethoven Festival was Fine Arts Chamber Players’ inaugural concert series. Since 1981\, the Festival has provided North Texas with free chamber music concerts during the month of July\, a traditionally slow time for arts events in Dallas. The Festival features professional musicians from local ensembles performing a diverse range of music. \nEvery program begins with a Rising Star Recital spotlighting local\, gifted young musicians\, many of whom are winners of area music contests and concerto competitions; followed by the Feature Performance showcasing professional musicians from across the Metroplex. \nAdmission is free and performances fulfill FACP’s commitment to produce classical music concerts with no barriers to attendance. Performances are enjoyed by longtime arts patrons and attendees who are new to classical music. Families with children in particular might find the Festival a good fit. \nSince the pandemic\, we now offer recordings of these concerts on our YouTube channel HERE. \nWe are indebted to the past work of Dr. Alex McDonald\, Festival Director of Basically Beethoven Festival from 2015 – 2023.
