Artistic Director’s Virtual Concert
In appreciation of our members’ patience and ongoing support during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sammons Center will present “Come Together,” a Sammons Jazz Artistic Director’s Virtual Concert at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 4. A virtual pre-concert reception will precede this special concert.
Sammons members and those holding tickets to the Jazz, Cabaret, and Discovery concerts that were postponed this spring due to the pandemic will soon receive more information about how to view the concert for free.
Tickets for all other patrons will be available later this month via the Sammons Center website. Tickets will cost $10.
Featuring Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones in a jazz double feature of his own compositions, the two-set performance will open with ’73 Swing. Arlington, drummer Andrew Griffith, and bassist James Driscoll, who were all born in 1973, will form a group reminiscent of the famed trios led by Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and Nat King Cole. Cellist Dr. Jesús Castro-Balbi and percussionist Jorge Ginorio will join Arlington in the second set to perform Soul Unity Suite, his seven-movement composition for piano, cello, and percussion that eloquently fuses jazz and classical music.
