Thanks to loyal jazz fans, the fall season of Sammons Jazz sold out well before the first concert on Wednesday, September 4, the 11th consecutive season to do so. The series kicks off with Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones paying tribute to piano icons Ramsey Lewis and Scott Joplin. Playing with Arlington in both sets are two multi-talented artists, bassist Anthony “AJ” Brown and drummer Marcus Jones.
Arlington’s concert, Piano Roots: Chicago to Dallas, is also a nod to his own development as a jazz artist. Like three-time Grammy winner Ramsey Lewis, Arlington was born in The Windy City. A few years later, however, the Jones family moved to Texas where Scott Joplin, the pianist/composer who became famous as The King of Ragtime, was born.
